After a community meeting in April 2016 with Helen and Stuart where we discussed the best way to use the remainder of the funds in the Friends of Waitabu TC Winston Appeal, we decided to purchase 3 new Kawasaki TJ35 Brushcutters, one for each of the communities in the area.
All housing was now being repaired and rebuilt with the roofing iron, supplies and hardware purchased by the Friends of Waitabu TC Winston Appeal. Government assistance had finally arrived and all damage assessed, so the houses were being taken care of.
The fund was very successful in getting a large donation amount though, and we wanted to use it for the betterment of the region and the villages.
The Turaga-ni-Koro for Waitabu suggested the new brushcutters as the grass in the villages was getting of control, causing pooling water and mosquito breeding grounds. Spare nylon spools were also included to ensure that the consumables were available to keep the villages clea, tidy and mosquito free.
Sikeli drove down to Somosomo Carpenters Hardware on Monday 13th June 2016 to collect them. He delivered them just as it was getting dark to Waitabu village.
